this album was recorded between may and december, 2005, in guelph, ON, at the humble abode of ken brown and julia phillips, under the supervision of mister brown himself. delicately produced, it focuses on the vocal and guitar tracks, supported by ken's wonderful bass and guitar work, with aaron collier (of halifax's jimmy swift band) making an appearance on keyboards.

always a joy to work with, ken brown is a stellar musician -- a guitar player, a stand-up bassist, a singer and a very powerful songwriter. check out his website for examples of his music, his writings, and some valuable tips on playing in DADGAD, an alternate tuning of which he and i are both quite fond. this is a record of material from two performances at the bluebird cafe in halifax, NS. it's got the usual suspects (artificial means, anna begins, overlap), newer covers (my songbird, the ballad of mary magdalene) and some original material (midway, late shift, your busy day). i designed and built the cd art myself, and then stuffed it into second hand cases. i didn't sell many of them, but they went for about 10 bucks -- it's cheap 'cause most of the songs are not mine. i'm not trying to make money off of other peoples' music. please look these artists up and buy their albums.

a demo cd, also recorded with ken brown, during summer 2004. all songs are covers, except for stone (topple), which is the first song i ever wrote. most of the tracks are live performances, though a few were experiments with multi-tracking. cd cases again made by me -- this time with newspaper and cardboard.
"13 hours in a basement"
well, that's what my friend xanthe called it. god knows what's on it -- god knows who actually has a copy. i made it in high school, in the basement of my friend lizzie's house. i know it includes anna begins, iris (goo goo dolls), lullaby (trout fishing in america), crash into me (dave matthews band), 4am (our lady peace) and a number of other old covers. may it rest in peace.
